History

Vienna-Falls is part of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), "elevating women singers worldwide through education, performance, and competition in barbershop harmony and a cappella music..” The headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Within SAI, there are 24 regions spanning the globe. The regions are organized geographically, and Vienna-Falls is part of Region 14, Heart of the Blue Ridge.

The mission statement of Vienna-Falls follows that of Sweet Adelines International:

"Vienna-Falls is dedicated to advancing the barbershop art form with a commitment to musical excellence and personal growth in a supportive culture."

Vienna-Falls received its official charter on January 6, 1967 with 35 members. Members of Vienna-Falls chorus have been active in all aspects of the organization serving at the Regional and International levels. Vienna-Falls has consistently placed as one of the top five choruses at Region 14 competitions. Winning regional competition has enabled us to compete on the International stage numerous times, placing twice in the top five choruses. We achieved the ultimate goal of International Champions in 1988.

Vienna-Falls has had wonderful performance opportunities throughout its history, including at the White House and Blair House, at the Mormon Temple, and at the U.S. State Department reception celebrating the release of the hostages from Iran in 1981. We have also sung the National Anthem for DC United and the Washington Nationals. Other exciting and unique appearances have been at the Presidential Christmas tree lightings on the Ellipse, the Music Educators National Conference, and, in 2017, the SAI International Education Symposium. Current regular performances include concerts for Honor Flight veterans as well as holiday appearances at White House tours and the historic Willard Hotel.
